The Baton Rouge Zoo was the 1st zoo in Louisiana to acquire the distinguished honor of being accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association. As a leader in the zoo field, the Baton Rouge Zoo was accredited in 1977, 4 years before any other zoo in the state and 8 years before such accreditation was mandatory for membership in this prestigious professional association.
